Middle School Science

The Science program is a laboratory-based, experiential class. While the sixth grade entails a broad survey of many fields of science, the seventh and eighth grades study biology, chemistry, and physics in more depth. Engineering units are also incorporated into all Middle School science courses. Students learn how to design and implement increasingly challenging experiments and projects, while learning to articulate their discoveries in multiple ways: through written lab reports, detailed lab diagrams, and oral presentations. Engineering projects also engage students’ problem-solving abilities and help them to develop creative solutions.

In the laboratory, students are taught how to conduct scientifically sound experiments, to develop their critical thinking skills, and to understand the relationship between science and technology. Community resources and field trips enrich the Middle School Science program. Also offered are robotics and ROV (Remote Operating Vehicles) electives.
